The idea that grew into global giving circles
100 Women Who Care was founded by Karen Dunigan of Jackson, Michigan in 2006. At the time, she was tasked by a local charity to raise $10,000 to enable the purchase of cribs and bedding for babies in their care. She hosted a women's luncheon and invited attendees to donate a minimum of $100 each. She raised more than $12,000 at that inaugural event and the concept of a ‘giving circle’ was born! Today, there are 700+ 100 Who Care giving circles around the world, for women, men, teens and businesses. And 100 Women Who Care Foothills is proud to be one of them.

100 Women Foothills
The Foothills giving circle was founded in 2015 by Karen Love. Karen was inspired to start a group in Okotoks after a charity that she was working for at the time received a donation from 100 Women Who Care Calgary.
We were initially called ‘100 Women Who Care Okotoks’. The name was changed to ‘Foothills’ in August 2015, to reflect the larger geographic region that local charities serve.
Since our very first meeting in November, 2015, 100 Women Foothills has made 41 donations to 28 charities in Foothills County, for a total donation amount of $297,040!
100 WHO CARE ALLIANCE
100 Women Foothills is a 'verified giving circle' with the 100 Who Care Alliance.
Check out our listing on their website.
The 100 Who Care Alliance was started as a volunteer effort by four 100 Who Care chapter heads that wanted to create a format for sharing ideas and learning from the best practices of other 100 Who Care chapters around the world. As chapter heads, they all have to address similar issues and challenges within their giving circles.
They recognized that since akk 700+ chapters are in such diverse geographical locations, most of us can’t meet other chapter heads face to face and often, we don’t even know about each other. Towards that end, the Alliance was created to connect 100 Who Care Chapter Leaders.
A secondary goal in forming the Alliance was to get the word out more broadly about what we all are accomplishing locally, so we could inspire additional 100 Who Care chapter growth throughout communities around the world. Their first activity was a conference in May 2015.
The Alliance compiles a master chapter list and keeps it up to date (so you don’t have to do that additional time-consuming work for your own website). Chapters operated in accordance with the main intent of Karen Dunigan’s original model, ensures a listing.
The benefit is the ability to connect with other 100 Who Care chapters all over the world to share best practices and exchange ideas via our Facebook forum and at conferences. The updated chapter list also ensures that potential members can directly view and contact any operational chapters, such as 100 Women Foothills!
We are free to operate our 100 Who Care chapter as we see fit. The alliance concept was formed to be simple, impactful and powerful.
