Presenting Charity Profiles

High River HandiBus has been helping seniors and individuals with mobility challenges stay connected to their community for more than 45 years.

Every ride they provide helps someone access medical appointments, shopping, employment, social activities, and essential services they may otherwise be unable to reach.

A donation from 100 Women Who Care Foothills would help them continue expanding accessible transportation in our region by supporting the purchase of a new wheelchair-accessible van. Demand for their service continues to grow, and adding another accessible vehicle will allow them to reduce wait times, increase ride availability, and serve more residents who rely on them to maintain their independence. This new vehicle would strengthen their fleet, improve reliability, and ensure they can continue providing safe, dependable transportation throughout High River and the surrounding Foothills.

Every trip represents more than transportation—it means access to healthcare, connection to family and community, and the freedom to live with dignity. Your support would create a lasting impact by helping ensure that no one is left behind simply because they cannot access transportation.

Opening Gaits Therapeutic Riding Society provides therapeutic horseback riding programs for children, youth, and adults living with physical disabilities, developmental delays, brain injuries, mental health challenges, sensory processing disorders, and other unique needs.

Through the movement of the horse, with the support of certified instructors and dedicated volunteers, participants improve balance, coordination, strength, communication, confidence, emotional regulation, and independence in a safe, inclusive environment.

Over the past four years, their program has grown by 174%, providing more than 1,260 opportunitites for 'bums in saddles' in this past season. Every lesson is individualized and supported by trained volunteers who work alongside our instructors to ensure each participant can ride safely and achieve their personal goals. They currently have a waitlist and continue to see increasing demand for their services.

Funding from 100 Women Who Care Foothills would help Opening Gaits sustain and expand this life-changing program by covering essential operational costs, including horse feed, veterinary and farrier care, adaptive tack and equipment.

Their main focus for funds, should they be lucky enough to be the chosen charity, will be to have an accessibility ramp added to the outdoor arena. This would utilize this space and allow their classes to expand to the great outdoors, providing the potential opportunity to increase class size and frequency.

MyCityCare Foothills exists to strengthen our community by supporting individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, crisis, or isolation.

Through practical programs, compassionate relationships, and strong community partnerships, they help people meet immediate needs while creating opportunities for long-term stability and hope. They believe that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and to know they are valued by their community.

Funding from 100 Women Who Care Foothills would support their Shop of Wonders, a unique Christmas program that transforms the holiday experience for families facing financial challenges. Instead of receiving pre-selected gifts, parents are welcomed into a beautifully arranged "shop" where they can personally choose new toys, books, games, and gifts for their children at no cost. This simple but powerful experience restores choice, preserves dignity, and allows parents to experience the joy of giving.

Our collective gift would help MyCityCare purchase high-quality toys and gifts for children of all ages, ensuring every family who visits Shop of Wonders finds meaningful presents their children will love. It also helps create a warm, welcoming environment where volunteers offer encouragement, hospitality, and hope during what is often a difficult season. The impact reaches far beyond Christmas morning. Families experience reduced financial stress, parents regain a sense of pride and empowerment, and children wake up knowing they are loved and remembered. Together, we can ensure that every child has something special to open and every parent has the opportunity to give with dignity. Support from 100 Women Foothills would create lasting memories and remind families that they are not alone—that their community truly cares.
